This workshop will be held at Aboubakar's studio in Athens which is located in Kato Petralona
This workshop is a logical progression from the 3-day indigo workshop. Participants will need a basic understanding of how the indigo vat works, and how to use it. This workshop will cover some of the simpler techniques used to make surface patterning with indigo. Techniques covered will include wrapped shibori, stitched shibori, clamped shibori, and rice-flour paste resist.
As each technique is introduced, participants will make samplers of the technique until they are comfortable with it. As the techniques are covered, participants are encouraged to begin planning a simple project that can be undertaken with Aboubakar's supervision on the afternoon of the second day and the third day.
The workshop starts at 10am and finishes at 5pm. All sample materials and dye-stuffs will be included in the cost, but participants will need to bring their own small project to work on. Details will be sent out – however Aboubakar will have some handspun and handwoven organic Malian cotton as well as linen and other textiles available for purchase at the studio.
Because most of the potential participants coming to this workshop are travelling from outside of Greece, we are waiving our usual stipulation for a minimum number of participants. These workshops will go ahead regardless of the number of participants, to a maximum of ten people.
We cannot issue a refund if you change your mind unless we fill the workshop and then fill your place. You are welcome to give your place to another person if you cannot come yourself.
If you wish to attend more than one of these workshops, a discount of €30 per workshop will be offered when they are purchased at the same time. Please contact us through the contact form if you would like to arrange this, as we will need to invoice you directly via Paypal with the discount applied. Workshop places are not reserved unless fully paid-for, and we cannot accept part-payments.
